Mission mars - NASA

Up to the decade of the year 1960 , scientists were unaware about many mysteries of the mars . First time mariner space craft of NASA transmitted pictures from mars . Which created lot of curiosity in the scientists about many mysteries of the planet mars . Most of them have been solved by now and now scientists are trying to find as in what form life exists in mars .
1965
NASA first time obtained 22 pictures of mars by space craft mariner - 4 when it reached near the mars .
1969
Mariner - 6 and mariner - 7 took more than 100 pictures of the mars and sent to earth . The surface and atmosphere of the mars was studied .
1971
Space mission mariner - 8 was unsuccessful . The space craft was destroyed during the flight .
1972
Historical flight
Mariner - 9 was the first space craft which orbited the mars . It sent pictures of valleys & volcanoes .
1976
Space craft landed on mars
Viking - 1 and viking - 2 landed on mars for the first time . No indication of life at mars were recorded . But detailed knowledge of chemical activity was obtained .
1993
After 18 years
Mars observer was successful to reach the orbit of mars . But after three days contact with the space craft was disrupted .
1996
Mars globan surveyor transmitted one lakh twenty thousand pictures of the mars .Many mysteries were unraveled .
1997
Mars path finder transmitted 220 million information and twenty thousand pictures . First time the pictures were watched on internet . It was disclosed that at some point of time mars was as wet and hot as the earth .
1999
Unsuccessful missions
Mars climate orbiter mission was unsuccessful . Later mars polar lander was also lost while it was trying to land at southern end of the mars .
2001
The geological maps received through mars odyssey for the first time unraveled many mysteries of the mars . Indication were received of presence of water and ice on the mars .
2004
Rover craft spirit transmitted pictures of a mystery image . Which looked like a image of a human being . There are however differences amongst the scientists about it .

Hours after Phonix mars lander of NASA , softly landed at Martian arctic plains , it dazzled scientists with the first ever glimpse of red planet high northern latitude , believed to hold reservoir of the ice beneath .
