Body basics

Simple life style changes can go along way in ensuring healthy eyes .
Food habits : - Eye dis oreders can be prevented by eating nutritious food . Studies have concluded that by eating nutrients - antioxidants , lutiens & zexathins , beta carotins , vitamins - C , Vitamins - E and zink , eye disorders can be prevented .
Vitamin - C : - is contained in most fruits and vegetables including oranges , grapefruits , strawberies , papaya , green peppers and tomatoes .
Vitamin - E : - is hard to find since found in small quantities . Vegetable oils ( sunflower & corn ) , almonds , peanuts , wheat germ and sunflower seeds contain it.
Beta carotine : - is present in dark green leafy vegetables ( spinach ) , deep orange and yellow fruits ( carrot , mangoes , sweat potatoes , apricots and peaches ) , vegetable and cereal .
Lutiens & zexathins : - Primery source is dark green leafy vegetables . Also available to lesser extent in other colour ful fruitas and vegetables such as broccoli , corn and peas .
Zink : - Meat , liver , shellfish , milk , whole grains and wheat germ .
Must do's : - Eye examination once between age of twenty years and thirty nine years . Every two to four years between age of forty to sixty . Every one to two years if older than sixty five years . Children eyes should be screened at ages of six months , one and half years and five years .
It is important to protect one's eyes ( both chldren and adults ) from the damaging rays if sun . By using sun glasses that block out ninty nine to one hundred percent of both UV - A and UV - B radiations .
Glaucoma is asymptomatic . It can be detected if looked into .
Control of diabetes and blood pressure ensures healthy eyes .
Cow webs in front of eyes need urgent( not emergency ) examination .
Once in awhile close one eye alternately and read . Any distortion or missed letter calls for a detailed examination .
Regular exercise benifit eyes .
Stop smoking to prevent blindness .
